Halfway through..

I am roughly halfway through In Cold Blood right now and I can understand why the first post is supposed to be about the interplay between "real life" and literature. Capote goes in and out of documentation and what seems like it might be fiction or might be just an extremely accurate replay of the events that occured with the murders. I find myself more thinking that I'm reading a fictional novel that one tied to true events.

The beginning of the book starts off with a lot of set up for what seems like it would be just an intriguing story. However, near the murders, when the townspeople are "speaking," it becomes much more apparent that Capote interviewed them. It is an interesting piece of literature.

The only problem I have with the book is at times it does seem more like a documentary of the story. I understand that large portions of the book are trying to accurately depict the minds of the people involved in the story, however I feel that sometimes it leads to the story being long winded when it could be more to the point. If I was reading this book on a larger time frame I might be able to deal with the lengthy setups and descriptions, but on such short notice I wish it was more facts and less full length letters from Perry's past.
