I agree with Lara and what she said about the details in each of the novels. The way Capote wrote about his characters you could tell he knew more about them. He was much more personal. Updike used a great amount of detail but he was not nearly as personal with the characters. I also like the affect Capote created by jumping back and forth between sets of characters. It was confusing at first but after awhile I got used to it. Updike used a similar technique but it was almost too disjointed. Like Lara said, you were kind of left wondering what the other characters were doing. At times in both novels I just felt overwhelmed by details. Really, I keep going back and forth as to which novel I liked better. Both of them made me really sad.
