proposal
For my paper, I would like to relate Truman Capote's In Cold Blood to the Andrea Yates case where she drowned her children. Ms. Yates is currently being retried on a technicality, and the many people in the media have sympathy for the overworked, stay-at-home mother. she claims that "satan" or " voices" told her to drown her children. This can be related to the sympathy that Capote seems to have for Dick and Perry when they murdered the Cutter family.

This should be good, especially if there is current coverage of the retrail. You really have 2 things to consider here--"public" opinion (and sympathy) and the opinion/sympathy of the press. Make sure to note that those aren't always the same (but of course do affect each other.)
