Rabbit, Run Post #1
In relation to meaning between the two novels, Rabbit, Run is less personal and more bland than In Cold Blood, which made me enjoy it less. The way in which Capote gets inside the lives of the whole town of Holcomb, in the minds and backgrounds of the killers and the victims, and the overall tone he puts on the novel drew me in more and I felt i could relate to it. However, Updike did not seem to get as personal with the main character. He does give background and a good description of Rabbit, but the way he wrote the novel seems like he doesn't get in touch with the characters as much as Capote did with his. Also, Capote made me sypathize with the bad characters in his book more than I did with the ones in Updike's book. The way he chose to reveal Perry and Dick and their stuggles is much different than the way Rabbits is revealed.
