Real Life... a little late...
While first reading the book I found it hard to stay interested. All the special attention to small things and the way Capote elaborates on descriptions of people, places, events became very tiring. At first it was extremely annoying the way he went on and on about things, it made the story seem like it would never start. After a while I realized that all these descriptions helped me, as the reader, to connect to what was happening. All the seemingly minute, unimportant details worked to help make me feel like I was reading about something that happened to someone I knew.
Knowing that this story is based on actual events makes my mind reel. I could easily have thought that this story was completely made up, a production only from the writers imagination. Knowing that this family, one that people respected and looked up to, was murdered in the bizarre and gruesome way that they were made this book more interesting for me.
