Real Life

In real life how often do we read to far into things? We look at the newspaper, shift through magazines, or read books daily. In Cold Blood has made me realize how much we take from what we read on a regular basis and push it into our daily lives. Reading about the deaths of the four members of the Clutter family makes the other characters in the book much more cautious of their daily routines. This trend follows in what we do everyday in our lives. We hear of a murder in a nearby city and automatically our actions and places we go become studied in our minds. We panic at the thought that something like death could happen to us and in theory we believe that changing our daily routines will stop the tragedies from occurring.
Will us changing our lives really make us less of an attraction to murders and robbers? Probally not, but to the people of Holcomb, Kansas and ourselves its a sense of relief. So what if we can not go to our favorite restaurant or drive down our favorite street? Us changing our lives makes us less feel better about our safety. Its sad though that in when tragedy stricks a family often the first thoughts that cross a person's mind are this could have happened to me. It is understandable to feel panicked about your own safety but what about the families and friends of those killed? They are traumatized and feel even more in danger. The one thing they want is for their loved ones to be back.
Maybe its that I expected the book to focus more on the emotions of the other Clutter family members but I feel like the book is truly cold in its descriptions. So far I have found the book to be well written and easy to follow which has made me feel like a am reading one big newspaper article. I hope this changes as I finish the book.
