Response to Emily's post

I agree with Emily that Capote's book left much more to the readers interpretation because of the tone and language he uses throughout the book. I thought Rabbit, Run laid everything out in front of the reader and left little to interpret from the situations in the book. I think this comes from Capote's personal history with the characters of In Cold Blood ( I just saw a preview for the movie Capote), his knowledge of emotions, and habits of his characters made more depth in his book.
The language in Rabbit, Run kept you from fully feeling Rabbit's pain. I think if Updike had used different language and description an emotional connection between the reader and the books characters would have been much stronger.
