Response to Rene

I agree with her about how Rabbit Run and In Cold Blood make you aware of the depressing things that can happen to people. Capote is very intouch with his characters and describes them accordingly. Updike doesn't seem to really know his characters in personal way. I felt that I was often left wondering what the characters really felt and why they felt that way. I agree with Rene about the meaning of the book depends on how the reader percieves and responds to the characters and content of the book. It is all a matter of opinion and can depend upon what events have happened in your life and how they affected you.
