I like Jana's first Junebug post. I agree that the family seemed rather dysfunctional. However she was also right when she made the comment about what is normal? Whatever you are used to becomes what is normal. It's a very relative term. The family in Junebug never once considered the way they acted to be different. They just know that Madeleine doesn't act like them and she isn't normal.
