Rabbit, Run vs. In Cold Blood

I enjoyed Rabbit, Run a whole lot less then I did In Cold Blood particularly because of the style it was written in. Updike never got close to his characters and the story was much less personal than Capote's. Capote's ability to relate you to the killers made for a much more interesting and thought provoking read. Updike made it hard to find yourself in any of the characters and made the story not very deep.
While I will admit Updike's story is powerful in Rabbit, Run it is harder for the reader to relate to that Capote's In Cold Blood. By the plot lines of the stories I feel like it should be the opposite, but it definitely is not. I do not feel saddened by Rabbit's life like I do Perry's in In Cold Blood, I do not mourn for his loses the same way I did for Perry's Death.
