Rabbit, Run vs. In Cold Blood

The tone of In Cold Blood is very matter of fact. Meaning is made in the detail and the way one relates to the characters in the story. Meaning is through the interactions and the observations that others make about the characters. Whether it is other characters in the book or Capote himself making the observation, they allow the reader to interept the observations from their own point of view. The tone seems very straight forward, the details used to enforce the facts. The meaning is based on facts. Rabbit, Run has limited the point of view to just the author and Rabbit. It limits the information and the perspective the reader has. Meaning is made by your interpretaions of the information Updike gives you. You can tell that Updike's book is not based on a story, the tone is less of accute details but more of getting across a story to be interepted.
