Response and Paper Proposal #1

RE: Jana's Post on Junebug

I think Jana hit the nail on the head with her claim that it is a dysfunctional family passing itself off as normal. The thing I saw most relevant in this film was how typical this family was. Personally, in my family my mother is very outspoken and my dad tends to fall into the shadows. And I know plenty of people who have some way to relate to Junebug. Normal is such a relative term. There’s so classifying anything as normal, especially when it comes to family.

I also would like to agree that I would have enjoyed a little more detail about George and Johnny. If anything, that was the one detail that probed my mind to find. All other details I could accept, but I think it would have behooved the director to maybe develop Johnny and Greoge a little more.

Paper Proposal

Sorry for the lateness of this, but I believe I would like to attempt a paper on Junebug in comparison to (more generally) marriage and couples as well as (more specifically) celebrity marriages. I see a connection mainly in the area of our famous wedding blunders like Brittany Spears and Jessica Simpson. This stems around not only the ideal marriage, the dream couple but also neglect by the public to understand that stresses arise in any marriage and the initial love and lust can fade.

I think this will be good. Try to find a couple to talk about that has had credible credible sources comment on them rather than just "tabloids."
