junebug
I'm not sure yet how I feel about Junebug. I spent the past day going back and forth between loving it and being disappointed. I enjoyed the story line, but was unhappy with how abruptly it ended. I don't like having unanswered questions. I thought that is was an interesting story and the characters where very well defined and found them all interesting as well. I was fascinated with the father, who seemed to know more than others thought. Johnnie with his short temper and constant sadness, who then changed to what seemed like another person at work. The way he tried to tape the TV show was a sweet jester that went unnoticed. I wish I could have gotten to know them all better. I also found the movie to be a bit like a short story, one where you wish the author had made it into a novel.
In regard to conflict resolution, I found that the conflicts in this movie were very life like. They seemed to be based on a real family, as if this were more a reality show than a movie. The resolutions though were so unexplained, things just seemed to go back to normal. Which can be very true, many times people bottle up problems and pretend like nothing had happened. Readers want to know more, they sometimes want the innermonologue of a character so things make more sense. They sometimes need the direction from a narrator to understand who was right and who was wrong. The situation between George and his wife was very awkward. He was distant and upset the night before they left and then in the car home he seemed so happy to be leaving his family. It was that sort of situation when I wish I would have known what George was thinking, especially when he was sitting with Ashley. Conflict in life and in movies are much easier to understand when one has direction from an outside source, someone to tell us what we need and want to know.
