Paper #1 proposal
I have chosen to relate In Cold Blood to the story of a prison gang, "The Brotherhood" from the California area. These gang members used murder as a way to keep control over their criminal interpreted much like Dick and Perry used murder to keep control over their attempted robbery of the Clutter family.
I discovered "the brotherhood" story in a recent New York Times article and thought that while the cases were similar the descriptions of the accused are much different. While In Cold Blood makes you sympathize with the killers and New York Times article makes you angry with the gang members for their actions. This is because the article describes no history of the gang members.
In my paper I hope to compare the way descriptions of the accused changes the way the readers opinions on how the trials outcomes should occur.

This sounds good, especially since I would imagine that knowing the history of gang members would at least have the potential of arousing sympathy for them. Make sure you find one or two stories to focus on so that you can be more detailed than general.
