Junebug

All I can say about Junebug, is that it was very interesting. I am glad that it wasn't another typical disfunctional family comedy like we see so much of those these days. It seemed more real to me, with real problems and that we see and deal with everyday but aren't potrayed in movies that much. The actors also did a good job becoming each character.

When Madeleine and George go back to George's childhood town they seem to be very much in love. However, as the movie progresses it seems that they don't know much about each other at all. Through interaction with his family and her decisions with her business however, I believe they find out a lot about each other that they needed to. Ashely and Johnny seem to be total opposites at the beginning of the movie. It seems that Johnny wants nothing to do with his pregnant wife or the life that he is living and cannot seem to get out of it. Ashley on the other hand, tries to see past his anger to the boy she fell in love with in high school. It seems that they are the most real couple in the movie because in reality there are a lot of couples like that and I think that in the end they both know how much they do mean to each other. The parents are also a good example of a typical couple who has been together for a long time. They seem far apart from each other but want so desprately to keep in touch. The mother, Peg, loves her son's and is happy when George returns but is standoffish to Madeleine and doesn't want her to hurt George or ruin the family. The father seems depressed and withdrawn, but you can tell he loves his family and his wife. Even though he has a strange way of showing it.

Overall, Junebug was a good movie. It was different and offbeat which is a good change from the everyday family movies we see so often. It had a unique way of resoving conflicts and shows that no matter how disfunctional a family may be, their love will always get them through had times.
