Junebug
Overall, I liked the movie, it had it's own quirky humor that drew me in. The family was very odd but normal at the same time. They hardly spoke to each other (except for George's pregnant sister, who seemed to never to be able to stop talking), they were quick to snap at each other, yet also quick to forget, and never really got too worked up over anything. Modern conflict resolution, in my opinion, is portrayed pretty well in this movie. In Junebug, most of the characters either walk away from an argument, or just don't say anything at all. People tend to leave problems unsolved these days; nobody likes or knows how to deal with confrontation anymore. People would rather walk away from a problem or just let it dissolve than deal with it. These days, children are not brought up to learn how to deal with issues such as settling problems. Children just ignore them until they go away and what we end up with are adults who have no conflict resolution skills. In Junebug, Johnny is a quiet, brooding character who is easily aggrivated yet when he has his outbursts, he makes no effort to make things better. When he yells at Madeliene while they are working on his book report, Madeliene walks away without a word, and neither of them ever bring it up again. The only person to ever confront problems seems to be George's pregnant sister, who is an overtalkative person in the first place. She seems afraid of nothing outwardly, and optimistic about everything. She realizes that Johnny is very withdrawn from her, seemingly wanting to have nothing to do with her, yet she stays optimistic that once their baby is born, he'll be back to the loving, perfect Johnny from high school. The dad is the laid back, nonchalant kind of man who just doesn't get involved in drama, unfortunately, his wife wants him to deal with all of her issues so he's eventually pulled in to things. This family, all together, is not too much different from mostly every other family. They have their issues, their problems, their insecurities, their flaws, yet in the end they are still a family who loves each other despite all these problems.
